Does my horse need Renegade Classics or Viper Hoof Boots?

Here are the key differences between the Viper™ hoof boot model and Renegade Classic hoof boots

Horses naturally have varied hoof shapes, dependent on their breed, conformation and various other factors. Quarterhorses, thoroughbreds, arabians and spanish breeds often have fairly evenly rounded hooves while appaloosas and draft crosses can tend toward 'spade' or 'triangular' shaped hooves.

Regardless, hoof shape can vary horse to horse and as long as you have a good regular trim happening, you will see your horse's natural barefoot shape emerge.

Renegade® Viper™ Hoof Boots

The Viper™ hoof boot model is more rounded in shape overall, and wider at the toe quarters. It is available in a wider range of sizes, ranging from proportional dimensions to perfectly symmetrical. The material is slightly harder (with the exception of the UltraViolet series) and longer-wearing, with a deeper and more aggressive tread pattern.

Renegade® Classic™ Hoof Boots

The Classic hoof boot model is more oval overall, with a narrower toe and wider at the heels. A very spade-shaped hoof is often well-suited for this boot model. The tread is not quite as aggressive, so horses with more slide to their movement, such as gaited horses, may be better with this model.

NB this classic boot is shown with a Viper heel captivator.

The Classic boot tread is left and the slightly deeper Viper tread is shown right.

The Classic boot has a 'tongue' at the front similar to a sneaker.

The Viper hoof boot has a slit at the front.

What about the Renegade® Heel Captivators?

Heel captivators also come in both Viper and Classic shapes.

The Viper heel captivator has more shape and definition and is well-suited to low, well-defined heel bulb conformation.

The Classic heel captivator is flatter, and will fit a wider range of heel bulb shapes.

Captivators can be mixed and matched between boot styles - so for example if your horse has a very round hoof but flatter or smaller heel bulbs, you may choose a Viper hoof boot with a Classic heel captivator.
